Help On Shaft Flex Selection

Use the chart below to determine the appropriate shaft flex. The general principle is that the golfer will gain distance by using a more flexible shaft, however golfers that swing the club hard and fast will lose accuracy if the shaft is too flexible.

Carry Distance is the distance the ball is in the air, not including roll (If you tend to hit the ball low and count on some roll to strech your shots you can use it to make you calculation, but be conservative). When thinking about the performance of your driver or 5 iron, be honest with yourself and get a good average carry.

Building your clubs with shafts that are too stiff will make it difficult to get that sweet feel when a shot is hit well. It is a common understanding amoung teaching professionals: most of their students come to them with shafts that are too stiff for their swing speeds.
